Tim Spofford, Lynch Street: The May 1970 Slayings at Jackson State College (Kent, OH: Kent State University Press, 1988); Nancy Bristow, Steeped in the Blood of Racism: Black Power, Law and Order, and the 1970 Shootings at Jackson State College (New York: Oxford University Press, 2020). One of the few records of national coverage by any broadcaster that survive in archives today is the coverage by National Educational Television’s Black Journal (1968–1977), preserved at the University of Georgia’s Walter J. Brown Media Archives & Peabody Awards collection because it was nominated for a 1970 Peabody Award in the news category. Jackson State University’s office of communication has produced a short documentary entitled May 15, 1970: Gibbs/Green Tragedy at Jackson State University that is available on the university’s YouTube channel.
