Marez Endnote 13

As the largest and most active site of atomic transport and research in the United States, the Hunters Point Naval Yard radiated extensive contamination into the Black community. The navy also used Hunters Point as a decontamination site for ships used in nuclear tests, further spreading radiation in the area. In 1989 it was declared a Superfund site and remains contaminated to this day, partly due to a widely acknowledged US Navy cover-up.
